Weekend Fires

The Brookings County Sheriff’s Office responds to a pair of vehicle fires this weekend.

The first was Saturday around 5 a-m on I-29 when a 2014 Subaru Outback struck a deer, stopped by the side of the road, and then caught fire. The driver was able to escape, and Brookings Fire Department arrived and put out the flames. The Sheriff’s office estimates $12,000 damage to the vehicle.

The second was Sunday shortly before 3 p-m at the intersection of 466th avenue and 218th street when a tractor and baler that had been recently used caught fire inside a hoop building. The Sheriff’s office estimates $35,000 damage to the vehicles and an additional $5,ooo damage to the building.
