Welcome home set for South Dakota National Guard unit

A welcome home ceremony is scheduled for about 190 soldiers with the South Dakota Army National Guard’s 196th Maneuver Enhancement Brigade at Augustana University’s Elmen Center in Sioux Falls on Thursday, July 1, at 3:30 p.m.

The soldiers are returning home after serving a 10-month deployment to Djibouti in support of Combined Joint Task Force – Horn of Africa, where the unit has been conducting operations to enhance promote regional security and stability and protect U.S. and coalition interests in the region.

The public is encouraged to attend. The ceremony will also be live streamed on the South Dakota National Guard’s Facebook page.

Planned speakers for the ceremony include Governor Kristi Noem.

The unit arrived in the United States on June 24 and has been completing demobilization requirements at Fort Hood, Texas.
