Brookings hit and run accident veers through 3 properties

A Brookings man is facing charges after a Wednesday morning hit and run accident through three different yards.

Police Lt. Marci Gebers says it was reported shortly before 2:30 am on the 200 block of 16th Avenue. The driver had fled, leaving the vehicle behind.

Gebers says the Cadillac SUV left the roadway, jumped the curb and drove over a hedge on the 1600 block of Robin Road. She says it then veered left, hit some drainspouts on a property on the 200 block of 16th Avenue and ran over a tree in the backyard. It then went through a wood fence into a third property where it ran over a cable box and a patio. The SUV then did a u-turn and crashed through a different section of the fence before coming to a stop.

Police were able to ID the driver as 24-year-old Kole Ruml of Brookings. He later turned himself in at the police department and has been cited for reckless driving and property damage hit and run.

Total damages top $1000.
