Laleman pleads guilty to stealing thousands of dollars from Larson Ice Center concessions stand

A Brookings man pleads guilty to stealing money from the concessions stand at Larson Ice Center while he was an employee of the City.

Forty-year-old Paul Laleman entered a guilty plea Wednesday to grand theft, a class 6 felony. As part of a plea deal, the judge will have discretion to impose up to two years in prison.

States Attorney Dan Nelson says the requested restitution of $5200 was paid Wednesday.

Laleman was a parks technician with the city and he stole the money from the Brookings Ice Skating Association. The cash was taken from a locked concessions stand.

Court records say BISA officials noticed discrepancies in their concession funds and installed hidden cameras. Court records say Laleman was seen on camera “stealing thousands of dollars” from a locked drop box.

Laleman is no longer an employee of the city.

Sentencing is set for June 5th.
