A disturbance at a Brookings residence leads to extra precautions at Hillcrest School
A disturbance call leads to the evacuation of a Brookings residence and extra precautions at nearby Hillcrest Elementary School.
Brookings Police Lt. Marci Gebers says it happened shortly after 2:00 o’clock Tuesday afternoon. Police responded to a disturbance call at a residence in the 1500 block of 3rd Street.
Through the course of the investigation, suspicious items were located inside the residence. As a precautionary measure, the residence was evacuated, a perimeter was established, and Hillcrest parents were asked to pick their children up at a different location due to the proximity of the school.
There were no direct threats made against anyone or the school.
Gebers says the matter was quickly resolved and the residents were allowed to return to their home. She says the incident will be reviewed by the States Attorney. She would not say what the suspicious items were.
Police were assisted by the South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation.
