Combine damaged, corn lost in Friday fire near Elkton

The Elkton Fire Department is called out for a Friday afternoon combine fire just south of Elkton.

It happened about 1:30 p.m. on 486th Avenue near 218th Street.

Assistant Brookings County Sheriff Scott Sebrinf says the fire was spreading into the corn.

Sebring says it appears the fire started in the combine’s corn head and quickly spread to the field.

Once the corn and combine fires were extinguished, the damage to the combine was estimated at $2,000 and about $500 worth of corn was lost.
