A Huron man is facing charges after crashing into a business sign on Sixth Street in Brookings.

Assistant Chief Derrick Powers says a van driven by 21-year-old Alan Cazares-Pineda was headed west at about 8:30 Tuesday morning. He says the van crossed the lanes of traffic, went up the sidewalk and hit a low wall and business sign at Jones Optometric Clinic on the 1100 block of Sixth.

A witness told police the driver and a passenger fled on foot. They were quickly located.

Cazares-Pineda was arrested for hit and run, driving on the wrong side of the road and no valid drivers license. The passenger was not charged and was released.
