Injury reported in Aurora accidental shooting

One person is injured in a Thursday accidental shooting in Aurora.

Assistant Sheriff Scott Sebring says Brookings Police were called to the Hospital Emergency Room shortly after 2:00 o’clock Thursday afternoon. A male had shot himself in the hand.

The matter was turned over to the Sheriff’s department.

Sebring says it happened on the 200 block of Elm Avenue in Aurora. The male had been cleaning the .9 mm handgun and didn’t realize a bullet was in the chamber. The gun discharged into his hand.

Due to the severity of the injury, he was transferred to the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN.

The Sheriff’s Office is investigating.
