Man re-apprehended after escaping from Meade County deputy

The Meade County Sheriff’s Office says an 18-year-old man who escaped custody Tuesday morning has been apprehended.

Chief Deputy James Johns says 18-year-old Caleb Richter was located before noon yesterday.

Johns says Richter was spotted by Sturgis Police and was taken into custody after a short pursuit on foot.

The sheriff’s office says Richter was initially arrested in connection with a report of an injured female. Upon arrival at the Meade County Jail, Richter broke free from the deputy and fled.

Authorities say he was handcuffed at the time of his escape.

Richter was arrested for Simple Assault, Probation Violation, Possession of a Controlled Drug, and numerous other warrants. He now faces additional charges including escape.
