BROOKINGS (10-29-26) — The Brookings Optimist Club is helping strengthen communication and accessibility in the community through a donation to Brookings Area United Way (BAUW) to purchase an instant language translator.
The device will help BAUW communicate more effectively with individuals and families who speak languages other than English, making it easier for community members to access information, ask questions, and connect with local resources and services.
“Clear communication is essential to building a stronger, more inclusive community,” said Heidi Gullickson, Executive Director of Brookings Area United Way. “We are grateful to the Brookings Optimist Club for recognizing this need and investing in a tool that will help us better serve individuals and families throughout the Brookings area.”
The instant language translator will support BAUW’s efforts to connect people with programs, services, and community resources by reducing language barriers and helping ensure that more individuals can access the assistance they need. This device is available for other nonprofits to use in the community as well.
The donation reflects the Brookings Optimist Club’s commitment to supporting the community and making a positive difference in the lives of local residents. Brookings Area United Way works to improve lives and strengthen the Brookings community by connecting people with resources, supporting local initiatives, and addressing community needs.
