BROOKINGS (9-4-26) — The Brookings County Sheriff’s Office received a generous donation of fifteen LifeVac anti-choking devices from Project Beckett on Friday, September 4. The donation will allow a LifeVac device to be placed in every Sheriff’s Office patrol vehicle.
LifeVac devices are designed to assist in a choking emergency when standard airway-clearing methods are unsuccessful. Equipping patrol vehicles with these devices gives deputies another lifesaving tool when responding to medical emergencies throughout Brookings County.
Deputies routinely respond alongside local ambulance and fire departments and, because they are already patrolling throughout the county, may sometimes be among the first emergency responders to arrive. Having a LifeVac immediately available in each patrol vehicle means this equipment can be brought directly to a choking emergency without delay.
The devices were donated through Project Beckett, an initiative dedicated to placing LifeVac devices throughout area communities and into the hands of those who may be in a position to save a life.
“We are extremely grateful to Project Beckett for this donation and for the work they are doing to make this lifesaving equipment more readily available throughout our communities,” Sheriff Marty Stanwick said. “Our deputies never know what type of emergency they may encounter during a shift. Having a LifeVac in every patrol vehicle gives them one more tool they can use when seconds matter.”
