Noem administration submits request for 2024 fireworks at Mt. Rushmore

The South Dakota Department of Tourism, on behalf of Governor Kristi Noem, submitted an application for a special use permit for the 2024 Mount Rushmore Fireworks Celebration. The application was submitted to the National Parks Service.

The Fireworks Celebration was returned to Mount Rushmore in 2020 after being canceled for more than a decade. The National Parks Service rejected permit applications for 2021- 2023.

Noem says they will keep fighting to host fireworks at Mount Rushmore.

The Governor took the issue to court last year but lost. The courts ruled the federal government was within its rights to deny the state from shooting off fireworks at the national memorial.
