Pandemic recommendations coming to an end in Brookings
Monday is the final day for the pandemic recommendations in Brookings.
The City Council voted Tuesday to end the recommendations, which had been in place since the end of April. Prior to that, they had been requirements and included a mask mandate which had been enacted in September.
Brookings City manager Paul Briseno says it’s time to end the recommendations. He pointed out that there were only 14 active cases in the county. Briseno also says a large percentage of the most vulnerable population has been vaccinated and the county has held at 37 deaths from the virus for some time. February 25 was the last time a COVID-19 related death was reported in Brookings County.
The Council voted unanimously to rescind the pandemic recommendations.
