BROOKINGS – South Dakota State soccer rallied for a 2-1 victory in their annual GOALd game on Sunday afternoon.

The Fighting Hawks struck first with a goal in the 14th minute. That 1-0 lead held until the 60th minute when the Jacks leveled the game. MaKynlie Cade worked her way around a UND defender in the middle of the field and then her shot found the back of the net just inside the left post to make it 1-1.

SDSU would then take the lead in the 82nd minute. Ellie Gusman dribbled into the box and was pulled down by a UND defender which resulted in a penalty kick. Mia Bosch stepped up to take the shot for the Jacks. Her initial shot was saved but she fired the rebound into the back of the net and SDSU had a 2-1 lead and the Jacks kept the Fighting Hawks off the board the rest of the way.

SDSU had 19 shots and six of them were on net. UND had seven shots and four of them were on net. The Jacks had three corner kicks and nine fouls. The Fighting Hawks had four corner kicks and 12 fouls.

Cade had four shots and her goal was the only one that was on goal. Bosch had four shots and three of them were on goal. Jenna Maloy had two shots and one was on goal. Emma Brezenski had one shot and it was on goal. Lauren Eckerle and Adrianne Agbayani each had two shots and none were on goal. Stella Braddock, Gusman, Hannah Langstaff and Katelyn Beulke each had one shot that wasn’t on goal.

The GOALd game was in conjunction with Alex’s Lemonade Stand, which is an organization that is supporting a cure for childhood cancer. The Jacks raised $541 on the organization’s website and also sold $15 t-shirts at the game.

SDSU will return to the pitch on Saturday with a match at North Dakota State at 7 p.m.
