Trash fire near Brookings spreads to tires, vehicles

The Brookings, Volga and Aurora Fire Departments respond to a trash fire that spread to a large pile of tires and to several vehicles.
Assistant Brookings County Sheriff Sheriff Scott Sebring says it was reported at about 1:45 Monday afternoon at a business on the 3400 block of Main Avenue South.
After engulfing the tires, the fire spread to several parked vehicles, causing significant damage.
Prussman Contracting responded to the scene with an excavator to assist and Novita Nutrition offered additional fire suppression supplies.
The fire was eventually extinguished. The total extent of the damage is not yet known. The sheriff’s office is investigating.
