Water Main replacement work begins on 8th Street and 11th Avenue
Starting Monday, June 1, 8th Street between Medary Avenue and Campanile Avenue will be closed to through traffic for water main replacement.
Brookings Municipal Utilities says the project will be divided into multiple phases and several phases will be completed overnight, from 8:00 pm to 6:00 am.
Work includes removing existing asphalt and concrete and replacing the water mains at the intersections of Medary Avenue and 8th Street and Campanile Avenue and 8th Street. Once the water main work is complete, gravel will be placed at the intersections so that the roads can be open.
Next, 11th Avenue, between 7th Street and 8th Street will be closed and the water main will be replaced on 11th Avenue. The west side of the road will be re-surfaced after the water main work is completed.
Beginning this week, the Contractor will do some light work preparing the road surface for construction activities.
Due to the nature of the project, there will be brief periods of time where the water will be turned off so that new connections can be established.
Residents in the area are being encouraged to email Evan Henningsen at ehenningsenswiftel-bmu.com to be added to project updates and communication emails.
