Watertown woman sentenced for stealing money from an elderly person

A Watertown woman has been sentenced after earlier pleading guilty to Grand Theft for deceiving an elderly person and taking their money.

Thirty-six-year-old Danielle Johnson was sentenced Wednesday to a five-year suspended prison sentence, 60 days in the county jail and three years probation. She was ordered to pay $30,000 in restitution.

The crime took place between November 2021 and February 2022.

South Dakota Attorney General Marty Jackley says their Elder Abuse Unit has had 541 referrals this year. The unit currently is investigating 41 cases.
