10 head of cattle killed in semi rollover near Bruce

A Tuesday afternoon semi rollover east of Bruce caused the death of 10 head of cattle.

Assistant Brookings County Sheriff Scott Sebring says the driver, Tommy Hernandez of Estelline, was trying to move over to the side of the gravel road to allow another vehicle to pass. The semi’s wheels caught the edge of the ditch and the truck left the road and rolled onto its side.

Hernandez was not hurt.

The truck was hauling 54 head of cattle and 10 were killed.

It happened at about 12:20 p.m. on 468th Avenue, just north of 204th Street.

The damage to the truck and loss of cattle is estimate at $170,000.
