Assault Suspect Arrested

A suspect wanted for allegedly stabbing a man in the face is taken into custody.
On July 9th, 26-year old Derk Hartenhoff of White, SD was stabbed in the face and shoulder during an altercation on Main Street in Bushnell. The Brookings County Sheriff’s Office conducted a search and issued arrest warrants for 44-year old James Basham of Brookings. The Sheriff’s Office says a nationwide search for Basham was initiated for two counts of aggravated assault.
The Sheriff’s Office says last night, Basham turned himself into law enforcement here in Brookings. He was booked into the Brookings County Detention Center with bond set at $10,000 cash. Basham immediately posted the bond and was released one hour after being taken into custody.
