Avery, Wendell retain Brookings City Council seats
A night for the incumbents in Brookings as Wayne Avery and Nick Wendell retain their seats on the City Council, although it was close for Wendell.
Avery came in first Tuesday with 1221 votes, Wendell was second at 1108 and Al Austreim was just 37 votes back at 1071.
Wendell had a more substantial lead after the early vote and first vote center were counted but Austreim was second and first in the last two vote centers, tightening the final tally.
Austreim is just within the margin where he could request a recount. A final total that is within 2% of total ballots cast is eligible for a recount. That would be 40 votes in this election. He has until April 23 to make that request.
Turnout in Tuesday’s election was 16-percent.
