Barn and equipment destroyed in fire near Brookings

A barn and equipment are lost to fire northeast of Brookings.

The Brookings and Aurora Fire Departments and Brookings County Sheriff’s Office responded to the structure fire at about 4:15 Friday afternoon at 47452 210th Street.

Assistant Sheriff Scott Sebring says the owner had been burning garbage in a burn barrel on the west side of the barn. The owner thought the fire was out and left the residence around 2:00 PM. When he returned, the barn was fully engulfed in flames.

Various Bobcat implements and attachments were lost inside the barn as were hydraulic tools and lumber. The estimated loss is $150,000.
