Brookings County Sheriff’s Office investigating after suspicious man reportedly approached child

The Brookings County Sheriff’s Office is investigating suspicious activity by an unknown man at a residence west of Brookings.

Assistant Sheriff Scott Sebring says it was reported late Friday afternoon and had happened between 3:45 and 4:15 pm that day at a residence on Highway 14 near 468th Avenue.

Sebring says two young children were walking to their home from the school bus when a man in a pickup pulled into their driveway. The man got out and pulled up a hood, covering his face. When the man saw a third, older child approach, he went back to his vehicle and left. He never said anything.

Sebring says the vehicle is described as an older silver or tan pickup with what was described as a “box like a moving truck.”

The man was about six feet tall.

Anyone with any information about this case is asked to contact the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office or call Crime Stoppers at 605-692-STOP.
