Brookings man arrested after standoff with police

A man is arrested in Brookings after barricading himself in a residence.

Brookings police say it began with a suspect, identified as 43-year-old Todd DeWulf of Brookings, allegedly breaking a window to gain entry into the residence. This occurred shortly before 3:30 Sunday morning on the 100 block of Wagon Wheel Circle.

According to Detective Adam Smith, when police arrived on scene, they were able to get two females and a male to exit the residence. They said DeWulf had made threats to one of the females and threatened the male with a pepper ball gun. DeWulf barricaded himself inside the residence and refused to come out.

Officers used a loudspeaker to make contact with DeWulf and he eventually exited and was taken into custody.

DeWulf was arrested on several counts including aggravated assault, first degree burglary, obstructing law enforcement, and violation of a no-contact order. He also has an outstanding warrant for simple assault.
