Brookings police seize meth, cocaine and heroin in Wednesday drug bust

A drug bust by the Brookings Police Department leads to the arrest of a Minnesota man and the seizure of drugs and cash.

Detective Adam Smith says the department conducted a drug operation Wednesday in the 2400 block of 6th Street. That led to a traffic stop on Interstate 29, about two miles north of Brookings.

In the vehicle, police found some 150 grams of methamphetamine, 100 grams of crack cocaine and 1.4 grams of heroin. They also found $2000 cash that was seized pending forfeiture. A two-year-old child was in the vehicle and was turned over to the Department of Social Services.

Fifty-nine-year-old Verran Burdunice of Brooklyn Center, MN was arrested for distribution of a controlled substance, two counts of possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute, possession of drug paraphernalia, and child neglect.

Smith says Burdunice has seven priors for drug distribution listed on his criminal history. He was taken to the Brookings County Jail and is in custody on a $25,000 cash bond.
