Brookings Sheriff’s Department investigates hit and run

The Brookings County Sheriff’s Department is investigating a hit and run that involved the loss of an electric power pole and damage to two fields.

Assistant Sheriff Scott Sebring says it was reported at about 9:30 Monday morning and happened on 485th Avenue, about a half-mile north of 199th Street.

Sebring says an unknown vehicle, believed to be a pickup, was traveling south and entered the east ditch where it struck the electrical pole. The vehicle then entered a corn field, drove back up onto the road, went across the road and west ditch into a rye field and then made it back onto the road.

The electrical pole had to be replaced at an estimated cost of $2,000. The damage to the two fields is unknown at this time.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office or Crime Stoppers at 692-STOP.
