Chicken coop lost to fire, barn damaged

A number of fire departments help fight a chicken coop fire that was reported Friday afternoon north of Ekton on 485th Avenue near Highway 14.

Assistant Brookings County Sheriff Scott Sebring says when crews arrived, flames were visible from the structure. It had been moved away from a nearby barn by the owner using a loader. The chicken coop was a complete loss and the barn received some damage. The total loss estimated at $35,000. The cause remains unknown at this time.

Fire departments from Elkton, Aurora, Bruce, Sinai, Volga, White and Brookings responded.
