Dogs, mobile home lost to fire near Brookings

Two dogs are killed in a Monday evening mobile home fire west of Brookings.

The Volga and Bruce Fire Departments and Brookings County Sheriff’s Office responded to the residential fire shortly before 7:00 pm at 1302 US Highway 14.

Upon arrival, crews found the mobile home filled with smoke. No one was home at the time. After extinguishing the fire, it was discovered two dogs did not make it out of the residence.

The owners believe the residence is a total loss.

Assistant Sheriff Scott Sebring says the cause of the fire is unknown at this time and is under investigation by the Brookings County Sheriff’s Department.
