Eight COVID-19 deaths reported in South Dakota since May 18; cases continue to climb

Cases of COVID-19 continue to climb in South Dakota.

Eight COVID-19 deaths reported in South Dakota Wednesday in the South Dakota Department of Health weekly update. The statewide total is 2927.

Active cases in Brookings County increase by nine to 54. Twenty-eight new cases reported since May 18th, the total is 8193. Recovered cases are at 8087. There have been 52 deaths reported in Brookings County. The County is in the “high” community spread category.

Statewide, active cases increase by 224 to 1470. Total cases increase by 595 in the last week to 239,704. There are 235,307 recovered cases. Current hospitalizations drop by three to 30.

Seventy-three percent of the state’s eligible population has received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine. Sixty percent have completed a vaccine series and 34-percent have received a booster.
