Further details released on Tuesday’s shelter in place at Sioux Valley Schools
Deputies from the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office responded to Sioux Valley High School in Volga Tuesday morning because a student brought a knife to school.
Assistant Sheriff Scott Sebring says the incident was investigated and one student was
taken into custody without further incident.
The Sioux Valley School released the following statement regarding the incident:
A high school student brought a knife to school with the intent to instill fear in others. The student wielded the knife in a classroom where there were two staff members present, but no students. The staff members were able to leave the room unharmed. Law enforcement was contacted and took the student into custody. School administrators called a “shelter in place” to eliminate student traffic throughout the building until the safety of the students and staff could be ensured.
