Investigators says LP gas was cause of deadly Fort Pierre home explosion

Investigators believe the cause of a May explosion at a home south of Fort Pierre was liquefied petroleum gas leaking into the basement.

The blast killed Bill and LaDonna Hupp and their infant granddaughter. Two other children suffered burns.

The Stanley County Sheriff’s Office says the damaged piping and components of the LP gas delivery system are being examined and the investigation will continue. What ignited the gas remains unknown. The incident has been ruled accidental.
