Mt. Vernon man arrested in death of 3-year-old

A 35-year-old Mount Vernon man has been charged in the death of a three-year old boy.

According to court documents, Shawn Bradley Delancey is charged with second-degree murder, first-degree manslaughter and abuse of or Cruelty to a Minor.

Delancey told authorities he had become frustrated and grabbed the child by his upper chest and shook him violently. The child became unresponsive a short time later and eventually died as a result of injuries received.

Bond for Delancy is set at $500,000.

The South Dakota Attorney General’s Office is handling the investigation.
