New date to be set for the Brookings Municipal and School Board Election

Work is under way to find a suitable date for the Brookings City and School Election.

The election had been set for April 14th but a bill passed by the South Dakota legislature this week requires upcoming local elections to be moved to June.

Brookings City Clerk Bonnie Foster says they are looking at a date after the June 2nd primary. She says their main focus is the voter and not creating confusion.

Foster says, at some point, the City Council will consider a resolution to set a new election date. She says they still need to line up polling places and election workers.

However, the Brookings School Board is set to approve a June 23rd election date at a meeting this afternoon. That is held in conjunction with the city election.

Early/absentee voting will continue until the election. Voters are encouraged to do that by mail. More information is available at the city’s website under “elections.”
