Arlington (11-5-26) — Arlington High School National Honors Society (306 Main St. S., Arlington, SD) will host a high-needs community blood drive on Thursday, November 19th from 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Community Blood Bank is calling on community members to roll up their sleeves for local patients at this critical time, just before the Thanksgiving holiday weekend. As a thank-you, every donor will receive a $15 Hy-Vee gift card.

To schedule a donation, residents may call the school office at 605-983-5598 or walk-ins arewelcome. Those donors will appointments will have priority over walk-ins, so appointments are preferred.

Blood is vital to a strong medical program. From trauma and emergency care to surgery and the treatment of critically ill patients, hospitals rely on having blood on hand the moment it is needed. Blood cannot be manufactured, so the only way to maintain that supply is through the generosity of volunteer donors. Those who donate at Arlington High School will directly give hope to critically ill patients in our communities.

“Every unit donated here stays part of the care we give our neighbors,” said Ken Versteeg, Executive Director of Community Blood Bank. “When the community steps up, our patients receive seamless care when they need it most. We’re grateful to everyone who gives 30 minutes of their day to make that possible.”

A single donation takes about 30 minutes from check-in to snacks, with the blood draw itself lasting only a few minutes. One donation can help more than one patient, making each donor’s gift go further.

Community Blood Bank welcomes new donors as well as those who have donated multiple gallons. Donations made with other blood bank entities are recognized, so donors can continue their donation journey right where they left off.

Donors should bring a photo ID, eat a healthy meal and drink plenty of water beforehand. Donors must be at least 16 years old, weigh 110 lbs. or more and be in good general health.
