BROOKINGS COUNTY (11-5-26) — At today’s meeting, the Brookings County Commission voted to rescind the countywide burn ban.

Commission Chair Shawn Hostler said harvest is mostly done, and there’s been plenty of rain lately… “I think on the southwest corner of Brookings I’ve gotten this week a little close to three inches of rain, so I think it’s been like that across the county.”

Commissioner-Elect Marty Stanwick suggested they look into easier methods of voting burn bans in and out of effect… “In the future, if we could do something that we’re doing here to take it off to put it on. And I think Kingsbury County has something similar, that they have something that if it goes into a dry spell, we don’t have to wait or you guys don’t have to have a special meeting. I don’t know if that’s something we could look at in the future, that you have that ability if it becomes a dry emergency that we can go into it without having to go through all of that? Just something to think about.”

The most recent burn ban was voted into effect by the commission on August 18.
