BROOKINGS, S.D. (9-18-26) — South Dakota State University’s Hilton M. Briggs Library is seeking artwork for its 2027 Jackrabbit Gallery Art Show, featuring the theme “Reflections.”
SDSU students, faculty, staff and alumni are invited to submit original artwork interpreting the theme. Submissions are due Nov. 22.
The annual show will be displayed throughout the spring 2027 semester in the Jackrabbit Gallery, located on the lower level of Briggs Library. The gallery was made possible through a gift from Doug and Sandy Oleson.
Artists may submit up to three works in a variety of physical media, including painting, photography, screen printing, graphic design, drawing, fiber and written word.
Artwork must be at least 8 inches by 8 inches, weigh no more than 15 pounds and be able to hang securely from a hook on a cable. Plexiglass is preferred for framed pieces.
To enter, artists should send one email with the subject line “Jackrabbit Gallery Show 2027” to ginger.thomson@sdstate.edu. One digital image in PNG or PDF format should be included for each artwork submitted.
The email should include the artist’s name, hometown, SDSU affiliation and contact information, along with the title, year completed, medium and sale price or “Not for Sale” designation for each work. Artists should also provide a brief statement of no more than 200 words for each piece.
Selected artists will be notified by Dec. 4. Accepted artwork must be delivered to the Briggs Library front desk by Dec. 16. Artists may also ship their work at their own expense. All artwork must arrive in good condition, dry and ready to hang securely.
A public reception will be held Feb. 2, 2027, from 4 to 6 p.m. on the lower level of Briggs Library, with awards announced at 5 p.m. Invited judges will select the top three entries.
Awards include $100 in Hobo Dough for first place, $75 for second place and $50 for third place. A Dean’s Choice Award and People’s Choice Award will each receive $25 in Hobo Dough.
The Jackrabbit Gallery Art Show provides an opportunity to showcase the creativity of the SDSU community while bringing original artwork into a space visited by students, faculty, staff and community members throughout the semester.
