Brookings Health System to Host Critical Needs Blood Drive on November 3

Brookings (10-23-26) — Brookings Health System will host a critical needs blood drive on Tuesday, November 3, and is calling on community members to roll up their sleeves for local patients. Donations will be collected from 7:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., with registration located inside the main hospital lobby.

Blood is vital to a strong medical program. From trauma and emergency care to surgery and the treatment of critically ill patients, hospitals rely on having blood on hand the moment it is needed. Blood cannot be manufactured, so the only way to maintain that supply is through the generosity of volunteer donors.

“Ken Versteeg, Executive Director, Community Blood Bank, every unit donated here stays part of the care we give our neighbors. When the community steps up, our patients receive seamless care when they need it most. We’re grateful to everyone who gives 30 minutes of their day to make that possible.”

A single donation takes about 30 minutes from check-in to snacks, with the blood draw itself lasting only a few minutes. One donation can help more than one patient, making each donor’s gift go further.

As a thank-you, every donor will receive a $15 Scooters gift card. To schedule a donation, donors can call the hospital at 605-696-8028.

Donors should bring a photo ID, eat a healthy meal, and drink plenty of water beforehand. Donors must be at least 16 years old, weigh 110 lbs. or more and be in good general health. Community Blood Bank is jointly owned by Sanford and Avera Health, providing blood to 43 local area hospitals including Brookings Health System. We are the only blood provider to all area hospitals and appreciate the local support to keep hope moving forward.
