BROOKINGS, SD (9-18-26) — The Dairy Drive returns to South Dakota State University ahead of the Jackrabbits’ football game tomorrow (September 19) against the Youngstown State Penguins.
Londa Nwadike is David A. Thompson Endowed Department Head of the Dairy and Food Science department at SDSU and invites the public to come out tomorrow… “From 1 to 5:30 pm we’ll have tailgating, and so there’ll be tailgating outside of our building outside the Alfred Dairy Science Hall so anybody that knows where the dairy bar is — so right to the east of the building, there by the dairy bar entrance — you can come and tailgate with us.”
She said they’ll also offer tours of the dairy plant… “We’re very proud of our dairy plant that we have at SDSU, so you can come and tour that plant — whether you’re interested in maybe studying in our department or you’re just an interested community member — please come and tour our plant for free. And then there will be lots of free ice cream outside the building as well so you can enjoy our SDSU ice cream.”
She said various Dairy Drive sponsors will have tailgate booths set up as well — Bel Brands, Agropur, Valley Queen, Prairie Farms, and AMPI… “So if you go to all these different locations we have quite little punch cards that look like Swiss Cheese. If you do an activity at each of the participating entities the tailgate booths then you’ll get entered into a drawing to win a cooler full of prizes.”
And Nwadike said they’ll have a special guest as well… “We’ll have a dairy calf that’ll be in the tailgating area as well. It’ll be over by ID station north of the stadium so you can come and pet a dairy calf as well, and then check out all of our tailgating partners.”
Tailgating runs from 1-5:30 p.m. on Saturday, September 19; kickoff for the football is at 6 p.m. During the fourth quarter of the game, there will also be free cheese available for fans.
