PIERRE, S.D. (9-11-26) — Nine South Dakota Highway Patrol troopers graduated today during a ceremony in the Larkspur Landing Event Center.
“Our law enforcement officers play a key role in keeping South Dakota strong, safe, and free,” said Governor Larry Rhoden. “Congratulations to our newest Highway Patrol troopers! We are so proud of you and grateful for your commitment to public service.”
Opening remarks were presented by Colonel Casey Collins, South Dakota Highway Patrol:
“Your dedication, hard work, and the sacrifices you’ve made during this challenging journey have earned you the state trooper uniform,” said Col. Collins. “It is a distinct privilege, and you should treat it that way every day.”
Collins continued by connecting their accomplishment to a milestone that underscores the true weight of public service.
“Graduating today carries a significance that goes far beyond this room. Today marks the 25th anniversary of September 11th—a day that permanently redefined what it means to serve,” he said. “You aren’t here simply because you completed a training curriculum. You are here because you chose to step up and accept the responsibility that an event like 9/11 represents. When others run away from chaos, state troopers move toward it.”
Class 73 graduates and their duty stations are:
- Cody Baumgardner, HP 104 – Custer;
- Colt Bradley, HP 125 – Brookings;
- Matthew Corda, HP 155 – Deadwood;
- Cameron Fields, HP 171 –Chamberlain;
- Joseph Hagins, HP 176 – Chamberlain;
- Trevor Lawrence, HP 207 – Huron;
- Benjamin Nelsen, HP 184 – Brookings;
- Hunter Shaw, HP 188 – Sioux Falls; and
- Seth Spielmann, HP 190 – Brookings.
