BROOKINGS (9-3-26) — A six-year old girl is injured in a car-bicycle accident.

Brookings Police say it happened yesterday (Wednesday, Sept. 2) shortly after 2:30 p.m. at the intersection of Medary Avenue South and Fifth Street South.

The six-year old girl was riding eastbound on the south sidewalk of Fifth Street South and passed through the Medary Avenue intersection at the same time an 18-year old man drove a pickup through that intersection, making a left turn from Fifth Street onto Medary.

Police say the driver swerved, trying to avoid the cyclist but ended up hitting the bicycle with the passenger side of his vehicle.

The girl was taken to Brookings Hospital and then airlifted to Sioux Falls.

Brookings Police are continuing to investigate.
