Brookings (10-30-26) — St. Thomas More Catholic Church (1700 8 th Street S., Brookings, SD) will host a community blood drive on Wednesday, November 11 and is calling on community members to roll up their sleeves for local patients. Donations will be collected from 7:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., with registration located inside church.

“As we move into late fall, it continues to be important to have residents step up to support thelocal blood supply. Each day, Community Blood Bank uses 110 donations of blood. This can only be provided by local volunteers coming forward to roll-up their sleeves,” says Ken Versteeg, Executive Director, Community Blood Bank.

Versteeg states, “We are just holding our own when it comes to the local blood supply. We are slightly above the “critical” appeal status, barely meeting the demand for blood. Community Blood Bank supplies over 550 units of blood each week to people in northwestern Iowa, southeastern South Dakota, and southwestern Minnesota. Giving blood is a short process that will change a patient’s outlook quickly. A person can donate blood every 56 days. This is a terrific way to help save someone in your community and to ready local supplies for situations requiring blood transfusions immediately. Join in to support the local blood supply on November 11th .”

As a thank-you, every donor will receive a $15 Kwik Trip gift card. To schedule a donation, donors can visit Community Blood Bank’s website at www.cbblifeblood.org , select Donate Today, Bloodmobile Calendar, and November 11 or call us at 605-331-3222.

Donors should bring a photo ID, eat a healthy meal, and drink plenty of water beforehand. Donors must be at least 16 years old, weigh 110 lbs. or more and be in good general health. Community Blood Bank is jointly owned by Sanford and Avera Health, providing blood to 43 local area hospitals including Brookings Health System. We are the only blood provider to all area hospitals and appreciate the local support to keep hope moving forward.
