BROOKINGS, S.D. — Oct. 19, 2026 — Vietnam veteran and author Craig Tschetter will deliver a free public presentation Tuesday, Oct. 27, at the South Dakota Art Museum in Brookings.

As part of the Art Museum Guild Series, Tschetter will share insights from his military service and discuss the differences between public perceptions of war and the realities of combat.

Tschetter is the author of “Fifteen Minutes Ago” and “Until the Day You Die.” During the program, he will explore the connections between the two books, how their stories are intertwined and the experiences that informed his writing.

A veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, Tschetter served as a combat radio operator in Vietnam from 1967 to 1969 and later as a Marine Corps drill instructor. His presentation will offer attendees an opportunity to hear firsthand perspectives on military service, combat and the lasting impact of war.

The afternoon will begin with a social gathering at 3:30 p.m., with refreshments provided by the museum, followed by Tschetter’s presentation at 4 p.m. A question-and-answer session will follow. The event is free and open to the public and will be held in the auditorium in the lower level of the museum, located at 1036 Medary Ave., on the campus of South Dakota State University in Brookings. Free parking is available on Harvey Dunn Street west of the museum.

Both of Tschetter’s books are available for purchase for $25 each at the South Dakota Art Museum Store and on the museum’s website.
