SD Attorney General warns of home repair scams

Attorney General Marty Jackley is warning South Dakotans about home and roof repair scams that have surfaced in South Dakota due to recent severe weather.

The Attorney General’s Consumer Protection Division is already receiving complaints from the public saying they’ve been contacted by repair companies that have popped up overnight. Jackley says people should not rush into making a decision regarding repairs, no matter how good the deal seems.

He says it’s also a good idea to ask for local references, a written contract and more than one bid. Also, don’t make full payment before the job is finished.

Jackley also notes that consumers typically have a three-day right to cancel door-to-door sales contracts.
