Second person dies from injuries sustained in Jan. 24 Moody County crash

A second person has died as a result of injuries suffered in a two-vehicle crash that happened January 24 west of Flandreau.

A pickup pulling an enclosed trailer was northbound on Interstate 29 when the vehicle hit a patch of ice. The pickup and trailer slid through the median and collided with a southbound SUV.

The driver of that SUV, 75-year-old Pat Mitchel of White, was declared dead at the scene. A passenger, 76-year-old Doris Mitchel of White, sustained life-threatening injuries and was transported to a Sioux Falls hospital. She died Thursday.

The driver of the pickup was not hurt. Two male passengers were injured and were treated at hospitals.
