SDSU MBB…The South Dakota State University men’s basketball team will have a new look this year with the loss of players like Mike Daum, David Jenkins Jr. and Skyler Flatten.
The Jacks also start with a new head coach. Eric Henderson was appointed to the job last spring when coach T.J. Otzelberger left for UNLV.
Henderson spoke to the Yankton Quarterback Club – he says they are working on a new belief system.
Henderson says they will need a full commitment this year.
Henderson says the team will have a new look this year.
The Jacks open with an exhibition game with Mount Marty on October 30th.
BHS FB…Once-beaten Brookings will host Spearfish Friday – looking to get back on the winning track after a 54-to-6 loss to Pierre.
Bobcat coach Lee Schmidt says his team wasn’t comfortable with the snowy, wet conditions. He hopes Brookings learned a fundamental lesson.
Schmidt says Spearfish is a hungry team, which makes them dangerous. He says the Spartans’ backs, and linemen, have good size.
Kickoff at Dana J. Dykhouse Stadium is at 6:00pm, Brookings time.
SDSU SWIM…South Dakota State is opening the swimming season with upgraded rosters.
Head coach Doug Humphrey says, even though the Jacks placed third and fourth in last year’s Summit League meets – coaches wanted more.
The women competed last week against Nebraska – SDSU didn’t win, but Humphrey says their efforts were rewarded.
Humphrey says the Jackrabbit schedule is less compact this season – that should help the program’s success.
SOCCER GOALD…South Dakota State women’s soccer hosted its first-ever GOALD Game earlier this season, partnering with Sanford Health Cure Kids Cancer! to raise awareness and support during National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. SDSU raised a total of $3,984.99 for Cure Kid’s Cancer! and nearly doubled its fundraising goal of $2,000.
Jackrabbit soccer sold GOALD Game t-shirts for $10 at the field, with proceeds benefiting Sanford Children’s Cure Kids Cancer!, and raised funds online for a “Pie in the Face” contest.
ZENNER-SAINTS…The New Orleans Saints have signed running back Zach Zenner and tight end Brian Parker in advance of this Sunday’s game at Chicago.
The players filled roster spots opened by the two-game suspension of defensive back P.J. Williams and the release of linebacker Stephone Anthony.
Zenner, a free agent, is a fifth-year pro out of South Dakota State who spent the previous four seasons with Detroit. He’s played in 36 NFL games, rushing 174 times for 685 yards and eight touchdowns. He also has caught 27 passes for 263 yards.
Zenner joins a squad that could be thin at running back this week if Alvin Kamara, who missed practice on Wednesday because of knee and ankle injuries, is unable to play on Sunday.
