Suspect in Custer Co. homicide commits suicide after pursuit in Colorado

The South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation and the Custer County Sheriff’s Office are investigating a Friday homicide.

Shortly before 10:00 .pm., the Custer County Sheriff’s Office responded to a home west of Custer on U.S. Highway 16. Officers found a deceased adult male. An adult female, who also was assaulted in the incident, had driven herself to the local hospital.

DCI identified a male suspect who had fled the scene. He was eventually stopped after a pursuit in Larimer County, Colorado. He died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The Larimer County Sheriff’s Office reports that the man fired at officers during the pursuit early Saturday morning and was eventually stopped with a PIT maneuver. They say that’s when the suspect shot himself. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Names of those involved are not being released at this time.
