Two people killed in Saturday crash in Lawrence County

Two people died Saturday afternoon in a two-vehicle crash near Whitewood in Lawrence County.

Names have not been released pending notification of family.

According to the Highway Patrol, the driver of a car was eastbound on SD Highway 34 and crossed the centerline into the path of a westbound pickup and the vehicles collided.

The 24-year-old male driver of the car was ejected and was pronounced dead at the scene. The pickup ended up in the ditch. An 87-year-old female passenger was  pronounced dead at the scene. The 55-year-old man driving the pickup suffered serious, non-life-threatening injuries.
