Two suspects injured in crash on 22nd Ave. in Brookings
Two men are injured in a crash at 20th Street South and 22nd Avenue in Brookings and the driver attempted to flee from the scene. It happened shortly before 3:00 o’clock Sunday afternoon.
Assistant Sheriff Scott Sebring says the Sheriff’s Office and Brookings Police responded to a traffic complaint originating on I29 southbound near mile marker 139. It was reported an SUV was traveling well above the posted speed limit and was weaving outside its lane, nearly striking a bridge.
A deputy was able to locate the vehicle which exited at 20th Street South, failed to stop for a red light and struck a southbound car on 22nd Ave S. The SUV rolled and the driver, 34-year-old Chancellor Eagle of Webster was ejected.
Eagle attempted to flee on foot and was quickly taken into custody along with the passenger, 21-year-old Peyton Sharpfish of Webster. The driver and passenger of the
car were uninjured.
Eagle was arrested for DUI, Aggravated Eluding, Driving with Revoked Drivers License, Reckless Driving and several warrants. Sharpfish was arrested for providing a false name to law enforcement and several warrants.
