Vaccinations for nursing home residents begin in Brookings

Neighborhoods resident Paul Sanders receives his first dose from Nursing Supervisor Vicki Creswell, RN

Brookings Health System on Monday began administering initial vaccination doses to nursing home residents at The Neighborhoods at Brookview, following the South Dakota Department of Health’s COVID-19 Vaccination Plan.

The vaccinations come from the state’s allotment of 14,600 Moderna-manufactured doses the state received.

In addition to nursing home residents, Brookings Health on Tuesday will begin offering vaccinations to other healthcare workers not included in the first group as well as EMS personnel and local law enforcement.

The Department of Health hopes to make vaccines widely available to the general public in April or May.
