Volga man accused of embezzling more than $14,000 from the Brookings Liquor Store

A Volga man is accused of embezzling more than $14,000 from the Brookings Liquor Store.

A felony complaint has been filed against 46-year-old James Nathan Wilson, charging him with Grand Theft.

According to court records, it happened between August, 2015 and January of 2020 while Wilson was an employee of the store. He is alleged to have engaged in a fraudulent scheme that involved numerous items that he improperly counted as valid transactions. According to the report, Wilson pocketed the funds from the improper transactions.

The charges came about following an investigation by Brookings police.

Wilson pleaded not guilty to the charges and his jury trial is set for November 18th.

Grand theft is a class 4 felony with a maximum penalty of 10-years in prison and a $20,000 fine.
