Weekly COVID-19 report:  Five deaths as active cases continue falling

Five COVID-19 deaths reported in South Dakota Wednesday. The statewide total is 2880. This is the first report since Friday as the state is shifting to weekly updates.

Active cases in Brookings County decrease by four to 79. Two new cases reported since Friday, the total is 8091. Recovered cases are at 7961. There have been 51 deaths reported in Brookings County. The County is in the “moderate” community spread category.

Statewide, active cases decrease by 171 to 2426. Total cases increase by 111 since Friday to 236,955. There are 231,649 recovered cases. Current hospitalizations decrease by six to 64.

Seventy-two percent of the state’s eligible population has received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine. Fifty-nine percent have completed a vaccine series and 32-percent have received a booster.
